Extra Public Holiday confirmed

To mark Scotland’s men’s national football team reaching the World Cup, colleagues will receive an extra seven hours of annual leave in 2026. This is a one off additional public holiday.

All colleagues will receive an extra seven hours of annual leave, pro rata for part time staff. You can take this day at any time up to 31 December 2026, subject to service needs.

Please agree your leave with your manager, in line with the operational needs of your team or service.

My Portal users

• My Portal will include a Public Holiday in Lieu quota. Please note, CBS are still updating My Portal. They will have added this quota by next Friday (10 April).
• You can request this leave in the same way as annual leave.
• Select Public Holiday in Lieu from the drop down menu when booking time off.

Non Portal users

• Non Portal users should request this leave in the same way as annual leave.
• Managers can run a public holiday quota report in My Portal. This will confirm a colleague's Public Holiday in Lieu entitlement.
• Please make it clear when you are using Public Holiday in Lieu hours.
• Anyone leaving Glasgow Life in 2026 must use these extra hours before they leave.
• Managers can confirm the pro-rata Public Holiday in Lieu quota for new starters or colleagues with changes to contractual hours by emailing selfservice@glasgow.gov.uk.
• We base the Public Holiday in Lieu for bank staff on recent working hours. We then upload this to My Portal. Managers can view this through the quota report.
