Throughout October, Glasgow Life is proud to present a programme of free events celebrating Black history, culture and creativity.

Join us across the city to discover new perspectives, share experiences and honour the lasting impact of Black communities in Scotland, the UK and beyond.

What is Black History Month?

 

Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people throughout history and today. It also provides an opportunity to learn more about stories that have often been overlooked, and to reflect on how the past continues to shape our communities.

Through tours, talks, discussions, film screenings and more, discover the rich cultural contributions, achievements and experiences of Black communities in Glasgow and beyond. Alongside celebrations of creativity and heritage, the programme invites reflection on the histories that continue to influence our city today.

All events are free and everyone is welcome.

The City of Glasgow Slavery Trail

This new trail highlights the legacy of slavery and colonialism in the city.

This first phase takes in sites including the City Chambers, Merchant City, Trongate and the Gallery of Modern Art, revealing how wealth generated through slavery helped shape Glasgow’s growth and institutions.
